BaZi Weight Chart: Full Bone Weight Lookup Tables
Complete BaZi weight chart with year, month, day, and hour lookup tables for Yuan Tiangang bone weight fortune. Includes lunar conversion notes and examples.
Complete BaZi Weight Chart and Lookup Tables
If you want to calculate your bone weight by hand -- or just want to verify what an online calculator gave you -- here are the complete lookup tables used in the traditional 称骨算命 system.
The calculation itself is simple arithmetic: look up four weights, add them together. But the lookups require converting your birthday to the Chinese lunar calendar first. If you'd rather skip the manual work, our bone weight calculator does everything automatically.
Year Weight Table (年骨重)
This table uses the sexagenary cycle (六十甲子) -- the 60-year repeating cycle of Heavenly Stems and Earthly Branches. Find your birth year's corresponding 干支, then read off the weight.
How to find your year's 干支: If you know your birth year's Chinese zodiac animal and element, you already have it. If not, any Chinese calendar converter will tell you. Or just use our calculator and it does this for you.

Month Weight Table (月骨重)
Based on your lunar birth month (not the Gregorian month). If you were born near the start or end of a lunar month, double-check which month you fall in -- the lunar calendar doesn't align with the Gregorian one.
| Lunar Month | Weight |
|---|---|
Notice the range: the 3rd and 9th months are the heaviest (1.8 liang each), while the 5th and 12th months are the lightest (0.5 liang). This means your birth month alone can create a 1.3-liang swing in your total weight.
Day Weight Table (日骨重)
Based on your lunar birth day (初一 through 三十).
| Lunar Day | Weight | Lunar Day | Weight | Lunar Day | Weight |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
The heaviest days are the 12th, 14th, 18th, and 26th (all 1.7-1.8 liang). The lightest are the 1st, 19th, and initial day of some months (0.5 liang).
Hour Weight Table (时骨重)
Chinese hours (时辰) divide the day into twelve two-hour blocks, each named after an Earthly Branch:
| 时辰 | Time Range | Weight |
|---|---|---|
| 子时 (Zi) | 23:00 - 01:00 | 1.6 两 |
| 丑时 (Chou) | 01:00 - 03:00 | 0.6 两 |
| 寅时 (Yin) | 03:00 - 05:00 | 0.7 两 |
| 卯时 (Mao) | 05:00 - 07:00 | 1.0 两 |
| 辰时 (Chen) | 07:00 - 09:00 | 0.9 两 |
| 巳时 (Si) | 09:00 - 11:00 | 1.6 两 |
| 午时 (Wu) | 11:00 - 13:00 | 1.0 两 |
| 未时 (Wei) | 13:00 - 15:00 | 0.8 两 |
| 申时 (Shen) | 15:00 - 17:00 | 0.8 两 |
| 酉时 (You) | 17:00 - 19:00 | 0.9 两 |
| 戌时 (Xu) | 19:00 - 21:00 | 0.6 两 |
| 亥时 (Hai) | 21:00 - 23:00 | 0.6 两 |
Zi hour and Si hour are the heaviest at 1.6 liang each. Being born around midnight or late morning adds the most weight from the hour component.
Calculation Example
Let's walk through a real example. Say someone was born on March 15, 1990, at 10:30 AM.
Step 1: Convert to lunar calendar March 15, 1990 = Lunar February 19th, Year of 庚午
Step 2: Look up each weight
- Year: 庚午 = 0.9 两
- Month: Lunar 2nd month = 0.7 两
- Day: Lunar 19th = 0.5 两
- Hour: 10:30 AM = 巳时 = 1.6 两
Step 3: Add them up 0.9 + 0.7 + 0.5 + 1.6 = 3.7 两
Step 4: Look up the poem for 3.7 liang
That's the result. Of course, you can skip all this math and use our bone weight calculator to get the answer in seconds.
Which Table Version Is Correct?
If you've seen different bone weight tables on different websites, you're not imagining things. Several variations exist, and they disagree on specific values -- particularly for some year weights and a few day weights.
The differences trace back to different editions of classical texts. The most widely used version comes from the 《三命通会》 (San Ming Tong Hui) tradition, which is what we use in our calculator. Some sources follow the 《渊海子平》 or regional folk traditions that modified certain values.
The practical difference is usually small -- one or two tenths of a liang -- but it can occasionally shift someone from one poem to an adjacent one. If you've gotten different results from different calculators, this is likely why.

Frequently Asked Questions
How to read the bone weight chart?
Find your birth year's Heavenly Stem and Earthly Branch (干支) in the year table, then look up your lunar birth month, lunar birth day, and birth hour in their respective tables. Each gives you a weight in liang (两). Add all four together for your total bone weight, then look up the corresponding poem. If you're unsure about your lunar calendar dates, our bone weight calculator converts everything automatically.
What does each bone weight number mean?
Each of the 52 possible bone weights (ranging from 2.1 to 7.2 liang) maps to a classical four-line poem that describes the general arc of that person's life. Lower weights (2.1-3.0) describe early hardship and self-reliance, middle weights (3.1-4.0) describe moderate fortune with specific ups and downs, and higher weights (4.1+) describe increasingly favorable circumstances. For detailed interpretations of what each range means, see our bone weight fortune explained guide.
Where can I calculate my bone weight for free?
Our free bone weight calculator handles the entire process -- just enter your Gregorian birthday and birth time. It automatically converts to the lunar calendar, looks up all four weights, adds them together, and presents the classical poem with a modern interpretation.
