AI Zi Wei Dou Shu: Prompts, Accuracy, and the Right Way to Read Charts with AI
Can ChatGPT or DeepSeek calculate Zi Wei Dou Shu (Purple Star Astrology) charts? This guide separates AI calculation from AI interpretation, gives 3 copy-ready prompts, and shows how to verify AI readings.

Why people search for AI Zi Wei Dou Shu
Zi Wei Dou Shu — also called Purple Star Astrology — is one of the two pillars of Chinese metaphysics, alongside BaZi. With ChatGPT, Claude, and DeepSeek now widely used, more readers are asking three concrete questions:
- Can an LLM calculate my Zi Wei chart from a birth date?
- Is there a prompt I can copy and paste?
- How accurate is AI fortune telling, really?
This guide answers all three, and it draws a clear line that most "AI fortune telling" content blurs: AI calculation and AI interpretation are not the same problem.
What AI is good at — and where it fails
Split the work into two layers: the chart layer (deterministic) and the reading layer (linguistic).
| Task | AI reliability | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Place the Life Palace and Body Palace | ❌ Unreliable | Requires lunar calendar, a chosen time convention, and deterministic rules |
| Place the fourteen main stars | ❌ Unreliable | Stars follow strict month-and-day formulas |
| Apply Four Transformations | ❌ Unreliable | Year stem drives transformations; one mistake cascades |
| Explain what a star means | ✅ Strong | Pure language work |
| Translate the chart into plain English | ✅ Strong | LLM core strength |
| Generate follow-up questions | ✅ Strong | Heuristic dialogue |
| Cross-reference with BaZi | ✅ Strong | Knowledge synthesis |
In short: let a deterministic tool plot the chart, let the AI read it. Asking an LLM to compute the chart from a birth date is asking it to do precise calendar arithmetic, which is a known weakness.
True solar time is not a birthplace coordinate. It is an optional time conversion derived mainly from recorded civil time, the birth-date equation of time, birthplace longitude, and the applicable civil time zone. See the NOAA formula and U.S. Naval Observatory explanation. Latitude is useful for identifying the place, but it does not directly enter this time-offset formula.
Why repeatability matters
An LLM can return different chart facts when wording or sampling changes because it generates likely text rather than executing a transparent calendar algorithm. A reproducible chart tool should return the same chart for the same inputs, settings, and version.
Once the chart facts are fixed, AI can summarize terminology and organize follow-up questions. Treat those interpretations as reflective guidance, not verified predictions, and require the answer to point back to the supplied chart facts.
That is the value of "plot first, interpret second."
Three copy-ready Zi Wei Dou Shu prompts
These prompts assume you already have a chart from a real tool. Replace {{...}} with your own data.
Prompt 1 — Core temperament and life theme
You are a Chinese metaphysics consultant familiar with the Zhongzhou
school of Zi Wei Dou Shu. Here is my chart:
- Life Palace main star(s): {{Zi Wei / Tian Fu / ...}}
- Body Palace main star(s): {{...}}
- Life Palace location: {{Zi / Chou / Yin / ...}}
- Triangulation (Wealth, Career, Travel palace stars): {{...}}
- Key Four Transformations for my year stem: {{Hua Lu / Hua Quan /
Hua Ke / Hua Ji into which palaces}}
In under 300 words, tell me:
1. My core temperament and life theme;
2. The blind spot most likely to make me anxious;
3. One sentence to give my present self.
Do not recompute the chart. Only interpret what I provided.
Prompt 2 — Spouse Palace and relationships
My Zi Wei Spouse Palace:
- Main stars: {{...}}
- Auxiliary / harmful stars: {{...}}
- Transformations entering this palace: {{...}}
- Major-luck or annual influence: {{...}}
Read this palace only. Do not analyze other palaces. Answer:
1. My typical relationship interaction pattern;
2. The most common pitfalls I should watch for;
3. A partner profile that fits me (personality and pace, not looks);
4. One concrete action I can take this month.
Prompt 3 — BaZi × Zi Wei cross-reference
Cross-reference my BaZi and Zi Wei charts. Do not recompute either.
BaZi Four Pillars: {{Year / Month / Day / Hour pillars}}
BaZi Day Master: {{...}}, balance: {{strong / weak}}
Zi Wei Life Palace: {{...}}
Zi Wei Spouse Palace: {{...}}
Zi Wei Career Palace: {{...}}
Zi Wei Wealth Palace: {{...}}
Answer:
1. Career direction implied by BaZi vs Zi Wei Career Palace —
where do they agree, where do they diverge?
2. Relationship structure from BaZi vs Spouse Palace —
how do they complement each other?
3. If I could only look at one life area first, which one and why?
These prompts work with ChatGPT, Claude, DeepSeek, and Gemini. Model behavior changes by version and prompt, so compare them on the same chart and rubric instead of assuming a permanent winner.
Three categories of AI Zi Wei tools
| Category | Examples | Calculation method | What to verify | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Pure LLM chat | ChatGPT, DeepSeek, Claude | Generated text, not a chart engine | Never use it as the source of chart facts | Reading an existing chart |
| Chart engine + AI | aiziwei.online, fatemaster.ai | Deterministic if the engine is documented | Calendar, school, time convention, leap months | One-stop chart + interpretation |
| Professional Zi Wei app | Wenmo Tianji, Taotaoxi | Usually a deterministic chart engine | The same settings and methodology | Charting with app-specific interpretation |
If you are new: use a chart engine to plot your chart, then paste the chart into an LLM for plain-English interpretation. That gives you the highest signal per minute.
Four steps to verify AI Zi Wei readings
- Cross-check the chart. Plot the same birth data and time convention on two or three tools. Compare Life Palace, main stars, and Four Transformations. Disagreement may reflect a calculation bug, a different school, or a hidden setting.
- Trace the school. Ask which Zi Wei school (Zhongzhou, San He, Fei Xing) the AI is using. If it cannot answer clearly, the reading is generic.
- Ask "why." A good reading can cite specific stars, palaces, and transformations as evidence. A vague reading falls back on horoscope-style language.
- Reality-check carefully. Compare conclusions with specific dated events, while remembering that retrospective matching is subjective and does not prove predictive accuracy.
BaZi or Zi Wei first for AI reading?
If you are choosing where to start, BaZi is usually the better first chart:
- BaZi has a compact structure (Four Pillars, Five Elements, Ten Gods) that is easier to provide as complete chart facts;
- Zi Wei has many palaces, fourteen main stars, transformations, and palace stems, so direct LLM calculation is not reproducible;
- BaZi is strong on timing (decade luck, annual luck);
- Zi Wei is strong on life areas (career palace, wealth palace, spouse palace).
A clean workflow:
- Generate a deterministic chart with a free BaZi calculator;
- Plot a Zi Wei chart with a professional tool;
- Hand both to an LLM and use Prompt 3 above for cross-reference;
- Ask the AI for three to five concrete actions.
Bottom line
AI Zi Wei Dou Shu is a real and growing search interest, but the safe positioning is "deterministic chart plus AI interpretation," not "let the AI guess from a birth date." If you do not have a baseline yet, generate a free BaZi chart first, then use the prompts above to extend the reading with whichever LLM you prefer.
